The SPG366A-600 Watt Solar Power Generator with Light Tower Mast from Magnalight is a towable lighting package powered by two deep cycle AGM batteries and charged by a mil-spec 600 watt solar panel. This unit offers quiet, fully standalone operation and incorporates features designed to improve security and provide economical operation. This 600 watt solar powered generator recharges the two included 366 amp hour capacity batteries at 24 amps per hour. Compared to an everyday diesel unit, the new solar panel can save the operator thousands in just a few months. Taking into consideration that an average diesel power generator unit costs approximately 6,000 dollars a month to run and maintain; the 600 Watt Solar Power Generator could pay for itself in just a few short months. The solar power generator is designed for low voltage applications and is ideal for the Magnalight range of LED lighting products. Suggested are the LED10W-9S and LEDLB-80X2 as powerful alternatives to traditional metal halide tower light configurations. Especially in situations such as entertainment events, work areas and other applications where the lighting must be placed close to the benefactors, the elimination of noise and fumes typically associated with diesel generators is a great beenfit. Finally, solar power generators offer a low maintenance alternative to traditional diesel powered generators that often require a qualified diesel mechanic to maintain and/or repair them. To JD -- yes, this is misleading By Patrick Delcastillo I'm an Electrical Engineer -- and I can't see for the life of me how a 2x100W panel system could be called an "1800 Watt Solar Package." That description is completely misleading. This is a 200 Watt solar system, as the maximum power delivered from the solar panels is 200 Watts. (And average power would be considerably less...)Just because the batteries and inverter can deliver 1800 Watts doesn't make this an 1800 Watt solar system. It's just a 200 Watt system. 13 of 23 people found the following review helpful. Misleading? By Honest John The title says 1800W yet the panels (2) are rated at 100W each. The mfr of this design outdid themselves. This one performs almost flawlessly. I had the mfr change the case work to match their other smaller units and added the terminal block for "permanent" installation, along with a heavy duty remote start cable for customers who want durability in demanding applications (fire trucks, ambulance, police, etc). The industry standard for remote cables is a flimsy plastic phone type connector, notorious for breaking with age.All the Solar model inverters deliver the full rated power specified. That was one of the conditions of acceptance.BTW, I don't work for the company who markets them anymore, so there's no vested interest in a positive review here. But I know what it is like when a customer expects to get something of value for their money. These WILL deliver, but you absolutely MUST follow the installation guide explicitly in the manual or they will die. See all 1 customer reviews...

Cobra CPI 1575 1500 Watt 12 Volt DC to 120 Volt AC Power Inverter

Amazon Sales Rank: #372 in Automotive Size: One Size Brand: Cobra Model: CPI 1575 Number of items: 1 Dimensions: 9.40" h x 8.80" w x 3.30" l, 5.80 pounds 1500 Watts Continuous Power, 3000 Watts Peak Power Three grounded AC receptacles and 5-Volt USB output LED function/status meter Remote on/off capable for easy control when installed out of reach Two-year limited warranty

This inverter provides household power on the go. It converts battery power to 120 V AC household power, allowing you to power up office equipment and household appliances from your vehicle. This unit is ideal for such appliances as microwave ovens (1000 watts or less), coffeemakers, laptops, TVs, video game consoles, CD and DVD players, cell phone chargers, and more. Power equipment and appliances from your vehicle. Click to enlarge. Great for automobiles, RVs, boats, tractors, trucks, and more. Click to enlarge. Includes three grounded AC receptacles and 5-volt USB output. Click to enlarge. How The Cobra Power Inverter Works The Cobra power inverter is an electronic product that has been designed and built to take low-voltage DC (Direct Current) power from your automobile or other low-voltage power supplies and convert it to standard 115 volt AC (Alternating Current) power like the current you have in your home. This conversion process thereby allows you to use many of your household appliances and electronic products in automobiles, RVs, boats, tractors, trucks, and virtually anywhere else. Cobra 1500 Watt Output Waveform Some very sensitive electronic equipment might not operate satisfactorily on "square wave" or "modified sine wave" power. The output waveform of the Cobra Inverter is a "square wave" or "modified sine wave." It is a stepped waveform designed to have characteristics similar to the sine wave shape of utility power. A waveform of this nature is suitable for most AC loads, including linear and switching power suppliers used in electronic equipment, transformers, and motors. AC receptacles With three ground AC receptacles, you can connect and power multiple devices at once. USB Output The 5-Volt USB output allows charging and operation of modern portable devices, such as iPods, BlackBerrys, and cell phones. Remote On/Off Switch Capable An optional Remote On/Off Switch can be connected to the Remote Jack, allowing you to turn the Cobra power inverter on or off from a convenient location when the inverter is installed out of reach. Safety Features The CPI 1575 will notify you with a flashing meter and alarm sound when there is a power problem, and will shut down for protection in the following situations: Current Overload Protection--If the inverter is overloaded, it will shut down to protect itself. Short Circuit Protection--If the AC output of the inverter is short-circuited for one second or more, it will shut down to protect itself. Low Voltage Protection--If the input voltage drops to 10.0V or less, the inverter will shut down to protect itself. High Voltage Protection--If the DC input voltage rises above 15.0V, the inverter will shut down to protect itself. Over Temperature Protection--If the internal temperature rises to 40 degrees C (104 degrees F), the inverter will shut down to protect itself. Warwick This review is in response to some comments regarding wire and fuse size selections for this inverter and others like it.In response to other review quoting a table from the National Electric Code (NEC). While the table that was posted is correct for 115VAC (household voltage) is does not translate directly to 12VDC (automotive voltage). When dealing with a 12 volt system there is less concern with wires overheating, at least in the way that the NEC considers it, and far more concern with voltage drop. When running wiring a reasonable distance (a couple hundred feet or so) there is little concern with voltage drop with AC power. But when dealing with DC, simply increasing your wiring distance 5-10' can have a drastic effect on voltage drop. That is why this inverter should be wired with, at the very least, #4 wire and really should be installed with #2 or thicker, especially if you need to run wire 15 or 20 feet or more. The purpose of a fuse in a DC system is to protect the rest of your electrical system in the event of a short. That is why you always want to install your fuse as close to the battery as possible (no more then 3' if you can help it). As far as the amperage goes, there is a really good quick reference chart for automotive wire size that can be found at Tessco's web site here:[Turns out I can't link to an outside page so I'll paste the contents of the table at the bottom]. But to boil it down, you can safely fuse a 12VDC circuit at 150, or 200 amps, or more on #4, #2 or #0 wire. Now this unit at full load is something like 85% efficient. So if you do the math -- 1500 Watts / 12 Volts / .85 efficiency = ~147 amps, A 150 AMP FUSE IS REQUIRED. If you take peak power into account you would need to double that to a 300 amp fuse, but because the inverter cannot run at peak power for more then a moment, a slow-blow 150amp fuse may work just fine, or perhaps you could step up a 200amp. I wouldn't go all the way to a 300 amp fuse unless you really found that you needed it and had the inverted is wired in such a way that it could handle that level current (read: installed using very heavy gauge wire). Now if your vehicle is running while your inverter is working the amperage will be a little lower because your dealing with 14.4 VDC rather then 12 volts (watts = volts x amps -or- amps = watts / volts). But at the very least, a 150 amp ANL fuse is very good idea and not at all over sized.Just a FYI on fuses, most car stereos are installed with AGU style fuses, but they only go up to 100 amps. You will need an ANL style fuse to get one rated at 150 amps or more. Not a bad price, but copper quality is questionable By HMMWV If Monster cable could only see the copper inside this jacket. Normally when you cut a piece of heavy cable in the center and strip back the insulation you see nice shiny copper. Granted the ends may be oxidized a bit but they are open to the air - I cut this at the halfway point to make 2 shorter cable sets or 4 equal cable pieces. This cable, while being nice and flexible, looked like an old penny inside - heavily oxidized and ugly as sin. I suspect its reclaimed copper 2 times over without proper slag removal. That's the only reason I took away one star. Also the crimp lugs supplied leave a tad to be desired, but they include some properly sized red and black heatshrink. You are supposed to put the stripped cable into the lugs then fold each half over the other with "electricians pliers" - My professional crimper was able to fold them but not close them tight on the wire, so out came the persuader - a 16 oz claw hammer and some cement. Yep - that closed the crimp nice and snug on the wire. Now it has a good snug grip. I did buy some professional #4 lugs at the hardware store made of copper like a shiny penny and my professional crimper did those justice, so their lugs are a tad sub par but you can put them on with just about anything. Alternately I could have hit it with a propane torch and fed some solder to it, which I may still do if there is excessive loss in the cable. I prefer soldered connections wherever possible.I also bought some nice bolt on attachments at the hardware store for $2/pr that have a bar which snugs down with 2 ea 7/16 bolts and nuts on the back side. Now that was a solid connection - I drove the bolts home with my dewalt 3/8" impact driver and a 7/16 socket which grabbed the wire and would not let go, then gave me a big ring to tie to that did not look like someone pounded a crimp lug with a hammer on cement to make it grab!I realize copper is expensive these days but this stuff was recycled 2 or 3 times over. New copper wire shouldn't look like a 1960's penny under the couch. It sure makes monster cable's oxygen free copper look bright and shiny by comparison. On the other hand, I did especially like the fact that the insulation is color coded properly, red and black. I have seen high current wiring kits where the wire's insulation is entirely black, entirely white, or some other way of not coding the positive and negative by insulation color. Even the space shuttle wiring is ENTIRELY white no matter what purpose it serves. The only identification each white wire gets is a black wrapper with a 4 or 5 digit number that is referenced in the schematics. Nasa's wire is also silver plated copper and thus carries the same current of cruddy copper wire 1 size larger with the same loss and less weight at 10x the price.Other than the cruddy copper - it's a good value - you're getting 20 feet of #4 cable with precrimped lugs on one end and trimmable to length on the other end with a set of lugs you can pound onto the wire. It certainly has the heft of 20 feet of #4 too - this shipped at over 5 lbs, most of which was the 2 pieces of #4 cable. It ran my inverter just fine so no harm. You also get a green ground wire to tie your inverter chassis to whatever ground you have, be it in a car or a ground rod in the earth. Like me you probably don't think you need a ground for a battery powered device - when wwas the last time you grounded your remote control? In theory ground wires should cary no current nor any voltage, but the spinning fan on the inverter can cause static electricity. You do need to equalize any static charge buildup or leakage in capacitors, or alternately stray magnetic fields causing voltage in metalic parts. Sure these are small voltages, between 0.5 and 2.0 V but they can flip a logic state if not returned to ground and also making troubleshooting a

By Allan Arthur The product arrived promptly and in good condition.I bought this in order to run the refrigerator and freezer during power outages and to run 120 volt gardening equipment (weed whacker, hedge clipper) without having to run a long extension cord. It is very difficult for me to start gas powered equipment and I need to take frequent breaks.I get plenty of run time using my lawn tractor battery. For refrigeration, I parked a car outside the window, connected the inverter, and left the engine running. Plugging in the refrigerator (only 300 watts) tripped the low battery voltage protection, but I was able to reset and run the refrigerator.Like virtually all inverters and some generators, it produces a "modified sine wave." Everything I have plugged in has worked, except for 2 UPS units. I use uninterruptable power supplies on my sattelite DVR and on my computer. Instead of just pulling the plug from the wall and plugging into the inverter, I had to unplug from the UPS and plug the units directly into the inverter. The battery cables supplied seem flimsy. Ring terminals are used to attach to the inverter. The inverter's terminals are spaced close together, which could be a problem with heavier wire with larger terminals. I had to tape the wire and terminals because copper was showing and strain relief is needed. You might think a generator would be a better choice, but it needs to be started periodically, fuel can go stale, and you need to guard against carbon monoxide. Manual starting is a problem for me, so an inverter is a better solution. The bottom line: It does the job. When the power went out two days ago I was glad I had the inverter. 10 of 10 people found the following review helpful. Quality product at a great price! By Jay Riemenschneider The man that did the first review (Allan Arthur) makes many great points. I use it strictly for convenience rather than fuss with a generator in bad weather, keeping it in good working order, etc. I can run everything I need for about 8-10 hours with two deep cycle batteries hooked in parallel. That may sound like a hassle all its own, and it was setting it up. I have the batteries hardwired together in my office out of sight. I have the inverter hardwired to the battery so when the power goes out all I have to do is run an extension cord to my living room where my computer and TV are and turn on the inverter. I can do that in two minutes. I also have a UPS, which gives me about 40 minutes before I even need to do that. Getting a generator up and running is going to take a lot longer than that.Overall, this product is amazing for the price. You should look up the difference between modified sine wave and true sine wave if you have any specialty electronics that you need to back up. You would need to do that with a generator as well. True sine wave is going to set you back quite a bit. Modified sine wave works fine for most household electronics. 5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Has issues running CFL loads By Valery Miftakhov Great value if you don't run CFL loads off this one. In my setup, it was tripping randomly when connected to 4 23W CFL lamps. 2 other inverters I had did not so must be a problem with this unit. If you don't plan to run CFL lamps, it's a great product. I especially like that the fan shuts down automatically under no load... See all 11 customer reviews...

It works but lower your expectations By Michael Gordon It works, just remember to lower or expectations (true for most any solar panel actually). Today, on a window sill, I am getting 2/10ths of a watt out of this solar panel into a "Bright Bar" LED trouble light which, incredibly, it will plug directly into without adapters -- see this: Vector Bright Bar 26 LED Rechargeable Worklight -- beware that the photo of the Bright Bar shows a different charge plug than came with mine so I cannot promise for you the same convenience that I have with mine. With a better position on the sun I should be able to double it to 4/10ths of a watt at which time it would fully charge the Bright Bar in 20 hours. Behind clear glass it can deliver 70 milliamps (0.07 amps) which isn't very much. Warning: Your mileage may vary. 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Never Worked By Richard Botteri I read the product description for the solar battery charger and "boat batteries" were listed. I assumed that since they listed boats that the product was waterproof... Oops on me. The product is not water proof! Well, for twenty bucks, what do you want... I was able to rig a waterproof cover for it out of an old, clear camelback hydration bladder. With that in hand, I went out assuming that it would work... Oops on me again. The led that is supposed to light to tell you that it's charging never lit up. I thought that maybe the clear pack was somehow interfering with it. So, I took it out and no go... THE PRODUCT DOES NOT WORK! If you need energy, just light a $20 bill. It's about the same cost and you'll get more energy from the fire than from this unit!!! Unfortunately, I threw away the packaging, so I couldn't return it. 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. failure By John Anthony Mosby Doesn't work at all. Wright I purchased one of these about five months ago from a popular online seller for $199.99 with free S&H. If you already own, or you are considering buying this gen set, you should read this. If you have experienced some of the same problems, maybe this info will be helpful. I am a retired Plant Engineer from a major world class manufacturer in the US and have 40+ years of experience with machinery and equipment so I know a lot about equipment manufacturing and repair. I really like the concept and idea of this gen set because its small, light, and it really does run about 9 hours (50% load) on a tank (1.3 gal.) of fuel but it does have its problems. I can sum up the problems I've had in two words, Quality Control! I can't speak for all the units out there, only mine. From what I have been able to gather from my research, there are several generations of this generator manufactured to date. I believe mine is somewhere in the middle with a manufacture date of Oct. 2007, so some, or all, of these issues may have been addressed with the newer ones. I will give you the good, the bad, and the ugly, as I experienced it. I have two other generators that I use for emergency power but I needed something small, light, and more fuel efficient to use at the fish camp and hunting lease. I needed only about 1100 watts for lights, and to keep the RV batteries charged, so this one seemed the perfect match. Most people buy the largest generator they can get not realizing that they have to move, store, and feed the hungry beast. When I purchased this one, gas was over $4.00 a gallon so it was senseless to use a larger one for my needs and waste precious fuel. When I took it out of the box I liked what I saw. I filled it with oil and gas and started it as per the manual. I was disappointed that it took 7 or 8 healthy pulls to finally start it. Even though it was new it should start easier and quicker when you use the choke. After letting it run for 5 minutes or so I put it under a 1000 watt resistive load. It worked fine but I noticed a substantial amount of oil under the engine. Very disappointed, I shut it down and checked for any loose nuts, screws, oil plug, etc., but could not determine from where the oil was leaking. It continued to leak even though it wasn't running so I knew it was a below oil level leak. I drained the oil/gas and called the seller expecting to exchange it. Of course they recommended that I follow the manual and call the mfg. which I had already done. On the third day of calling the seller and demanding to talk to a supervisor, and demanding an exchange for one that functioned properly without leaking oil, he finally told me they were out of stock and didn't know when they would be restocked and offered a refund of the full purchase price. I took his offer and ask him how he wanted me to handle the return S&H. His reply surprised me. They didn't want it back and he asked me if I would dispose of it. Sure I would! I think he had an idea what the problem was and it wasn't worth it for them to pay return S&H, repair cost, and then having to sell it as refurbished for a reduced price. I was sure that with a little time I could determine the cause of the leak and possibly fix the problem. I was unable to see from where the oil was leaking without removing the generator from the frame so that's what I did. It appeared that the oil was coming from under the front motor mount so I removed both motor mounts. I still couldn't tell exactly where the oil was coming from. I cleaned the bottom of the motor and then filled it with transmission fluid (do not run it like this) knowing the red color would be easier to detect. It worked! The oil was coming from a "casted in hole" that could be used for an oil drain in other applications. Manufacturers generally do this a lot so they can use their product for

Boyd I hooked up three 12 volt batteries in series, and used a Kill-A-Watt to measure the output. The output was 500 watts at 36 volt input, and the 90 amphour batteries lasted 5 hours. I believe the inverter will put out 550 watts at 48 volts. I have only run it 4 hours, but I don't expect any problems when hooking it up to a solar panel. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Works as described. By James D. Bartlett The inverter is plug and play. Simple as that. I built my own 250 watt solar panel with another in the works. 4 bolts to mount the inverter in the box, M size connectors and plug it in. Flip the switch and the green light comes on. Done and done. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Ensupra Inverter By gk Ensupra Grid Tie Inverter is very good product for solar panel. Good Inverter - Beware of those unfamiliar with Inverters By L-C Beware of all those talking about failures of the inverter - one guy says that he returned his, because two 70Ah batteries couldn't power it to run a 1/2 horsepower motor. Well...guys, there are a few things you need to know about inverters before buying a big one...which does NOT directly substitute for a generator! The little ones are WAY DIFFERENT than the big ones. First off, at 2500-watts, you are pulling 200+ amps across the wire...so, unless you are hard-wired with some 4/0 solid-strand wire, you really need to go with DOUBLE 4-AWG strand wires...basically, buy TWO sets of 4-AWG jumper cables, and after you cut the ends off both, then run double-strand (both red AND black) of a complete set to EACH POST of the inverter...yes guys, that's a LOT of wire...and due to heat, I wouldn't run that more than 5-6 feet! Now...batteries...let's laugh at the guy trying to get 1600 watts of batteries to run a 2500 watt inverter...and consider what you REALLY NEED...for deep cycle batteries rated on the 20-Ah system, and rated at, say 500-Amps, then buy 6 of these and wire them in PARALLEL circuit to power the inverter. Yep...$600 in deep cycle batteries! Now, you have enough batteries to power the inverter for 2-6 hours, depending on loading, before you will need to recharge your 6-battery bank. Plan on a charger that can throw 50-100 amps into the charge...so your little $50 Schumacher charger is NOT going to charge this battery bank overnight! Try more like a $300 charger to charge them in 12-hours...or, if you want solar, good...you need to throw about 70-amps of charge into these for 12-hours solid...so that is $300-$500 in solar panels. Also note...batteries get weak after enough cycles...so pay attention to your charge circuit...and a charging circuit MINDER isn't a bad idea, either! How do I know this? Because these are all the big troubles encountered when I was a Director of Engineering for an RV Manufacturer...and when you get over 1500-Watts of inverter involved...you start playing by a whole new set of rules! It is MUCH CHEAPER to go with a 3000-watt generator, than to even CONSIDER getting a 2500-watt inverter. This is a good inverter...but buying one this big and not knowing how to care for and maintain it, is like buying a big chemistry set and giving it without supervision to your mischievous 12-year old...it is NOT a good idea. 65 of 67 people found the following review helpful. Just O.K. By A. Spees We have alot of experience with inverters, and this inverter is just average. It does produce quite a bit of power, but we seem unable to run both of our energy efficient freezers simulatneously (about 1.7 amps draw each freezer --200watts). Also, it does not come with cables to attach it to the batteries, so expect to buy those too. Lastly, and most importantly is the noise. The inverter cooling fan starts up at even the smallest load, and it is loud. As more load is applied the cooling fan ramps up louder and louder. It is not so loud as to hurt your ears, but it is loud enough to be annoying and to heard throughout whatever room it is in, so I recommend you buy the remote start if you choose to buy this unit. Locate it in a closet or shed so you don't have to listen to it. We have had other inverters that cost much less, but of course only 1200 Watts of power, that had NONE of the shortcomings of this one (our old 1200 Watt model simultaneously ran both freezers, T.V. VCR, DVD player, speakers, and lights; it came with a connector cable, and its fan was quiet and only came on during high loads). The reason we purchased this one is because all the previous inverters, although quiet and efficient, eventually died, and we hoped that this one could handle the peak loads better. 9 April 2009: Just a brief update. At this point in time the inverter is useless, the cooling fans

By Brody Avalon I bought this to handle several AC devices at one time and it has never let me down. PROS: - durable construction - quiet = fan only comes on when unit gets warm after initial power up - LED display of watts being used or battery volts remaining. Very cool. CONS: - power cables from battery clamps to unit are stiff and brittle. You can buy upgraded "ultra flexible" ones but IMHO they should ship with that. Get this...you won't be sorry :-) 32 of 33 people found the following review helpful. Works Great By Kevin Levi I installed this in my travel trailer to run a tv/dvd, small microwave and computers. it works great, it dont get hot or make any weird noises and its pretty well built. I was a little worried about a converter because I've heard horror stories about them catching fire, but after having this one run for a while with no issues, no worries. i recommend this converter 26 of 27 people found the following review helpful. Used in storm shelter By Jeffery Braun We use this inverter in a storm shelter here in West Texas. It is connected to a automotive battery. Have a Battery Tender on the battery to keep it charged. In a tornado the inverter will provide power to the shelter for TV, radio, lights and a fan. Tests of the system have been perfect. The inverter has good connections for plugging it in and for clamping it to the battery. Like the front display showing stats. See all 22 customer reviews...

Instapark® 30W Mono-crystalline Solar Panel With a 12V solar charge controller

Tired of all the noise and smell from your diesel generator? The Instapark SPCC-30W offers you a quiet, clean while carbon-free alternative. Capable of converting virtually unlimited solar energy into clean, green, most importantly, free electricity, the Instapark SPCC-30W includes a 30-Watt mono-crystalline solar panel with solar charge controller. This solar panel is made of high efficiency mono-crystalline solar cells embedded in transparent vinyl acetate behind tempered glass with heavy back sheet ensuring maintenance free performance. Unlike amorphous solar panels, which only last about 5-7 years of continuous use, mono-crystalline solar panels can still retain over 80% of efficiency even after 25 years of continuous use. Also, the mono-crystalline panels are much more efficient and thus smaller in size while producing higher wattage. This kit is designed and engineered to primarily charge 12-Volt batteries, which store and provide usable power when needed, ideal for powering your RVs, ATV, marine boats and electronic equipments. The included solar charge controller helps prevent any connected batteries from overcharging. Other than recreational applications, solar power can also help lower your energy bills by reducing your dependence on the main electrical grid and provide back-up power during power outages.

Locke Picked this up for pop-up camper and a week of dry camping in 90 degree heat at the beach. Our goal was to run two fans 8-10 hours/night and keep two iPhones charged for 5 nights, 4 days without any power source. Product arrived as described. Controller appears to be very cheaply made, wires seem like they are undersized, and the controller unit was broken on delivery (transistor bouncing around in the box). I soldered the transistor back onto the board (night before departure, no time for a return) and it appeared to work. In full sun and aligned, the panel produced about 17.6 volts and 1.6 amps. Started off with a new Group 27 Marine/RV deep cycle battery, fully charged. We had two days of sun and two of clouds (the last two). I set the panel on a chair next to our camper at about 45 degrees each day and did my best to keep it aligned with the sun, though most of the charging time it was not perfectly aligned. The last two days, in particular, it was very cloudy and not well aligned. I unhooked the battery from the camper completely each day so the controller was connected only to the battery - completely unhooking and storing the panel/controller at night. Result: 5 full nights of two fans running 8-10 hours (02 12 volt, 700mA fans), 2 iphones charging each night. By my imperfect math, the battery might have delivered 3 days of fans without any charging before being dead. So - I take this to mean that the panel did the job. PROS - panel works as described, charging controller appears to have done what it was intended to. For basic uses such as the one above, the panel could keep you running for a long time (assuming it was really working at capacity). Relatively small and easy to store. I can't speak to longevity of either daily charging performance or the panel over time. CONS - charger is about as cheap as they come - mine was broken. Panel has very sharp edges and limited mounting options. Cable turns out to be pretty short. Charger offers no information about power being generated or battery status. 27 of 27 people found the following review helpful. Great Solar Panel for Small RV By J. Leonard I bought this for my Aliner camper to keep the battery up. Seeing my camper is an aframe it's pretty easy to just lay it out over a bubble to collect the suns rays, although I think we may build a mount so we can redirect it in any direction rather than just two. Initially I set it up in my driveway in full south eastern sun and the battery under load recovered very fast. I also ran the battery low on purpose (less than 12v) and it recovered quickly to 13.6v. I noticed it was also charging on overcast days and even though I checked the voltage with a meter I can't remember how much, but it did the job. We also changed over our light bulbs inside the camper to leds and that has helped with the draw. We do a lot of dry camping. We just came back from our first dry trip with the panel, and a week of charging cell phones and psps, running lights, water pump and other little things the battery is at a full charge and the panel got very little direct sun on a wooded site. So this panel seems to fit our needs fine. We are not running heat yet and we aren't using a ton of power either. Most people go bigger but I didn't want to have to pack up a huge panel or worry about where to store it and the extra weight. This panel is small and very easy to deal with. We picked up a 2 pin plug from Radio Shack so we could disconnect from the battery without having to access it. I run the cord through the electrical cord port. It was packaged well and everything was there. I am very happy with this panel and recommend it to anyone that would like to keep up a 12v battery under light use. I'm also pretty pleased I can leave it set up at home and not have to plug into the house. I'll try to add some pictures

Inverter once over By Olaf Knezevic I am no expert in inverters or electrical systems therefore rely on electrical products meeting national or international standards. I inspected the inverter and noticed one of the input terminals had one or two arc burns. The front of the panel had a scratch that was painted over with what looked like a felt pen. I could not find a lable with a serial number or indication of meeting national or international standads such as CSA, ISO, EN, CE, UL etc. I was concerned and borrowed a scope to analyze the sine wave. The sine wave looked good with only minor distortion at one small point. I found the unit created some noise in a radio plugged into the inverter and in a portable radio within a few feet of the unit. The portable radio noise fell off quickley with distance. The in line interference I felt could be filtered out for sensitive equipment. I was prepared to risk keeping the unit as it seemed to perform reasonably. I did however want a unit that was unmarked so I returned the unit to amazon. I do not at this time have a replacement unit. 6 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Miller I bought this inverter in Aug of 2010 as a whole house inverter for my Class C RV. The unit is rated at 3000 Watt continous, so I put a 20 Amp fuse on the output just to be safe. The fuse would blow if I put more than 2400 wat load on the unit. I finally got the unit fully installed with the appropriate transfer switches this summer, and it worked flawlessly for a couple month. Then last weekend the unit had no output. I checked and the fault light was on. I reset the unit and restarted it and BANG!! out came a short flash and a bunch of smoke. BTW the 20 Amp fuse never blew. Now I am left wondering what to do with a crispy $700.00 inverter - it is not heavy enough to hold my boat in place. Guess I will try contacting the MFG and see If I have any options. See all 5 customer reviews...

On in a Jeep Wrangler that I take offroad and camping. Works great for powering lights, etc. Handles the abuse of bouncing around on rocky terrain fine. I have the unit installed under the dash and leave it on 24/7. Has yet to drain the battery due to its small standby draw (I drive it atleast every other day). The fan only turns on when the output exceeds 100 watts making this unit very quiet. The other inverter is installed under the passegner seat in a Toyota Sequoia. Never had any issues with this one either. Works great for powering the PlayStation2, portable DVD players, and other electronics. Since the 700 model is cabable of powering electronics of 560 watts 4.8 amps continously, which is 46 amps on 12v power it is not able to be used through your cigarette lighter. The cigarette wiring is too thin to handle this kind of current not to mention the cigarette lighter fuse is not rated for it either. Xantrex provides battery clamps, which I find don't work well if you want the inverter inside the vehicle. The solution is to pickup some 6 gauge wire from your local Home Depot or Lowes and some heavy duty terminals and heat shrink. Mount the inverter and run 6 guage red wire to the battery. Crimp on the terminals and heat shrink it. For the ground I used a bolt on the firewall of the Jeep and the bolt on the seat in the Toyota. Use 6 guage black wire for this. If the above is not something you want to do your local audio installation store should be able to install it. Otherwise go with the XPower 400 watt model which can be used with the cigarette lighter for small loads, it does require the battery clamps or hard wiring for loads over 150 watts. 159 of 172 people found the following review helpful. Before you buy By A Customer This item is not compatible with a cigarette lighter. I bought one and it came with two connectors to attach directly to the terminals on a car battery. The instruction manual specifically states that the 700 unit cannot be powered by a cigarette lighter, but the smaller 400 and 175 models can. 72 of 75 people found the following review helpful. For emergency use By J.F.L.-Fairfax VA I have one of these power inverters for those instances (about 3 times/year)of power losses from rain- or snow-storms. Between my car, the car battery and the power inverter, I have the equivalent of a generator. Be sure to determine the wattage of the electrical devices that will be powered. A 32"-TV will require about 190 watts; floor- or desk lamps require about 75 watts each; a laptop computer needs about 47 watts. A 25-cuft side-by-side refrigerator uses about 750 kilowatt-hours per year (about 85 watts average; 170 watts "surge" when the compressor kicks in ) See all 27 customer reviews...

The models I own and use daily are my oldest in the fleet from xantrex (prosine 1000) Xantrex Technologies Prosine 1000 Prosine 1,000 to 1,500-Watt Power Inverter, their newer, true sine lower cost model the prowatt SW1000 Prowatt SW1000 1000W True Sinewave Inverter and the most recent low cost true sine 1000W that can't do 1000W from sunforce Sunforce 11240 1000-Watt Pure Sine Wave Inverter with Remote Control. I've used these extensively in remote power operation of tools and equipment where no AC was available in service vehicles. This model from Xantrex is atypical in that it produces "modified sine wave" power instead of "true sine wave power" like most of thier inverters. The end result to you is that some devices don't mind modified sine wave power, while others can be destroyed by it. Typically modified sine wave power is alot cheaper to produce than true sine wave power, but items with coils like florescent ballasts, transformers, even the big heavy wall transformers will overheat quickly - between an hour and 3 hours. Motors run hot and prolonged use will burn them out, but in an RV say a coffee grinder is only run for a few seconds and doesn't suffer any damage from the modified sine wave. Other sensitive devices are clocks which see the sudden voltage change instead of the smooth voltage change of a sine wave as being a zero crossing, so they count the extra 2 steps in making the waveform as seconds and run 2, 3, or even 6 times faster than normal depending on the clock and inverter. Audio devices powered by 110V like clock radios, ipod adapters with speakers, stereos, all lack filtering for the odd harmonics of 60hz such as 180 hz, 300 hz, 420 hz, and on up. When run from modified sine waves these sound like alot of low frequency hum is comming out. You can research "modified sine wave" on google to further pursue it's good points and bad points, but for this review just know it's NOT the same as what comes from your house outlet or a generator. Also understand that any inverter of this size requires 1/2 - 1.5 Amps just idle. In the Xantrex pro-sine series they installed a powersave function that when not being used (i.e. all 117VAC stuff is off) the inverter checks every 2 seconds to see if anything was switched on, and if so it stays running until the load is switched off. This helps to maximize your runtime on battery and the prosine units can be ordered with the automatic cutover feature offered in this inverter. The sunforce unit has another cute trick - a keyfob transmitter that turns the inverter on/off manually. The good news about these inverters is that its an optimal switching point for an RV. It can take input power from an RV park or generator and when that is lost because the cord is pulled or the genset runs out of fuel, the inverter kicks in automatically and takes the load. This is a major plus for RV use where power may come from many sources or none at all sometimes. When producing power from battery I recommend investing in the optima D31M blue top deep cycle battery or 2 in parallel so as to maximize runtime Optima Batteries 8052-161 D31M BlueTop Dual Purpose Battery. These can be drained without damage to the battery while a normal battery may only tolerate total discharge a dozen times in its life before fallout from plate damage collects at the bottom and shorts out 1 cell ruining the battery. I recommend 2 batteries in parallel to share the load because if you approach 1000 watts out, you will see currents in the 105-115 A continuous range from the battery. By putting 2 in parallel connected with heavy

Scales Ive been running this charge controller for about 6 months on a single 120 watt solar panel to a small battery bank and it has worked flawlessly. The unit is solidly built and has a quality feel. Ive checked the voltage reading on all charge stages and they are spot on accurate. The load out is designed for running lights after the panels stop producing power. One nice feature is it will handle 12 or 24 volt systems and does so automatically. So if you have a system that is running 150 watts at 12 volts or 300 watts at 24 volts give this controller consideration. I would definitely recommend this product for small or portable installations. See all 1 customer reviews...

Amazon Sales Rank: #41095 in Lawn & Patio Brand: Xantrex Model: 852-0400 Dimensions: 11.00" h x 4.00" w x 19.00" l, 31.97 pounds Provides up to 400 watts of AC power Provides up to eight hours of backup power for a combination of devices Five AC outlets with surge protection Automatic transfer switch means attached devices stay powered automatically during a power outage Operates both office devices and home appliances when the power goes out

Power outages are a reality that can threaten your productivity and sense of comfort. The XPower PowerSource 400 is the perfect backup power solution for the small-office and home-office market. During a power outage, it will supply up to eight hours of uninterrupted backup power to devices such as a small TV, a radio, a laptop computer, a desktop and LCD monitor, an inkjet printer, a copier/printer/fax/scanner, an Internet modem, a VoIP phone, a cell phone, or a cordless phone. Until now, backup power products on the market have only been able to provide limited backup power during outages and not extended runtime like the XPower PowerSource 400. With the XPower PowerSource 400, you will be able to keep working and stay productive--and meet those important deadlines. The XPower PowerSource 400 switches to backup power automatically when a power outage occurs. This happens seamlessly so that the electronic devices that are connected to it won’t sense the power outage. They’ll operate off the XPower PowerSource 400’s charged battery for hours. When grid power returns, the XPower PowerSource 400 switches the devices back to utility power, recharges its internal battery, and enters a standby mode until the next outage occurs.

By Martin Anderson This is basically a standard UPS with three exceptions. First, it is not intended for use on computers and thus does not have a USB connector to tell your computer to shut down when the power goes out. Second, and most importantly, its battery capacity is about 6 times that of a standard UPS. For instance, the Tripplite 700 UPS has a 7aH battery, which will provide 400 watts of power for about 7 minutes. This unit has 2 20aH batteries, for a total of 40aH, and should provide 400 watts for about 35 minutes. My big screen, Onkyo surround system, and satellite dish draw about 200 watts, so in an outage, I can probably watch TV for an hour. If my PVR alone is left on, it can run for 5 hours or longer. Third, this unit has a power meter on it, so you can tell exactly how many watts you are drawing. 12 of 12 people found the following review helpful. Ideal for RV, greatly reduces generator usage By EQReader I live off-grid, in an RV. I run the generator to recharge a 300aH bank of batteries for the 12v systems in the RV. But even the smallest, most efficient generator still supplies more power than I need. With the excess power I charge several of these Xantrex PowerSources. They then give me back the AC power I need when the generator is off. I use them to power my internet connection, laptop, cell phone recharges, watching TV/DVD, etc. As for usage... I have a 26" standard TV w/DVD, and I can watch a DVD for 3 hours or so. My wireless internet dish only draws about 5 watts, and I can keep it powered for days. If you are looking to power just a laptop and cell phone, for 8 hours a day, you could probably last two days with one unit. These batteries should not be discharged down to more than 50%, and the unit will beep loudly and eventually shut off power, so you don't get the full use of 400 watts overall, it's more like 240. You also don't really get 400 watts at once, count on only plugging in 300 watts worth of stuff at a time. Even so, given the price per amp-hour of AGM batteries, this UPS is still an incredible deal, just in battery value alone--and a much better deal considering portability (luggable, but not too bad), and the included inverter and drawdown info. Very easy to use, the readouts on both my units have always worked fine and any beeping that does happen is appropriate and helpful. Family friendly, and relatively idiot-proof. Once I explained how they worked, others who have stayed in my trailer have found them easy to operate and difficult to damage. Anyway, buy a couple of these and you'll run your generator WAY less often and for a much shorter time. 10 of 10 people found the following review helpful. Works as it says. By Carl Morris This is an early review in that I have not had to witness a lengthy power outage to determine its run-time, but from initial experience it seems to run as expected. Some things I do want to pass on to other people, is that this UPS is like most others, even though its from an inverter specialist, and will not operate on an existing modified sine-wave inverter. This won't bother most people however. Others should just note that it is very large as is needed for the run-time it is able to offer, and weighs a good amount too. It does not have a continous audible alarm when operating in backup mode. The documentation states it is a modified sine wave inverter, however I have not checked to see what the exact output looks like. I don't have any delicate equipment connected, so I cannot know if it would cause buzzing from audio equipment or picture distortion in video equipment. If you require a long run-time from a quiet back-up system this is an ideal solution. I use it to back-up power to my weather monitoring computer because I am gone too much during the day to activate my manual backup system. See all 29 customer reviews...

Most helpful customer reviews 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Go Power Solar Panel By Ed Montreuil Our newly installed, 80 watt solar panel by Go Power performed flawlessly on our first trip out. We dry camped for two days, and the solar panel kept our single battery charged up to 100% both days, even though we used our radio and lights extensively. We went to bed with our battery fully charged, and confident that our trailers battery would run the trailers furnace as needed throughout the night, without the battery going dead. In the morning, once the sun was up high enough to shine on the solar panel, the battery took a mere two hours to reach a 100% charge, from a night time low of 67% from running the furnace. In storage, as our trailer is for an average of 27 days and nights each month, the solar panel keeps the trailers battery fully charged and in good condition. I like this solar panel system, and I'm happy that I purchased it here on Amazon.com. See all 1 customer reviews...
