I am starting with a small 100w 12v single solar module and this was the most affordable micro-inverter at an affordable price that I could find. Installation was easy, just connect the positive wire from the solar module to the positive pole of the inverter and connect the negative wire from the solar module to the negative pole of the inverter. I used grounding lugs to connect the ends of negative and positive wire to the negative and positive poles of the inverter. I crimped the ends of the wire from the DC volt meter (not voltage tester) to the inverter to measure the voltage from the solar modules.The Ensupra Inverter checks for 12v on the DC side then samples the voltage/frequency on the grid and then synchronizes and connects to the grid. The input voltage ranges from 12v to 29v. Thus anything below 12v will shut down the inverter. Also anything above 29v will also shut down the inverter. There is a built in fan to cool the circuit when it gets hot. When you first turn on the inverter the fan comes on for about 10 seconds. Also during the day the inverter fan will cycle on and off. One thing to note is that when the fan comes on the inverter disconnects from the grid until the fan shuts off.I can add modules until I outgrown the inverter. However, all i have to do is add a second inverter without scrapping this one. For startup this is a great grid-tied inverter. 5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Works Perfect as Described, but Not UL Listed By Dave Plummer I've been running this for a couple of months now and it works exactly as described. I feed the output from my solar panels back into my house, and while I don't have the capacity to sell back to the grid, it offsets my use. I have the connection going through a KillAWatt meter so I can monitor that it is, in fact, pushing power.For the technically minded, it appears to bias the voltage by about .6V RMS (or 1V peak to peak) over the existing line voltage, which is about what I'd expect.At the 100W range that I'm running it at the fan kicks in periodically and runs for a few seconds. The documentation says it has a thermal cutout at 62C (in case of overload or if the fan died), which I cannot verify but I hope is correct. This unit is not UL listed, which worried me a bit. The reason, I suspect, is that the price to have something certified by UL is the same for a 5000W inverter as it is for a 500W unit, so it's not cost-effective to do so with smaller units. Still, I am somewhat concerned about leaving a device that's not certified connected 'permanently' and when I'm not home.To the one reviewer that complained it was 'inefficient' because he was only seeing 60W from a 100W solar panel, it should be understood that solar panels only make their rated power under ideal conditions (probably at the equator at noon on the solstice) so 60W seems reasonable to me. From my tests, it converts to AC about 90% of what I would otherwise see if my panels were connted solely to batteries.I do not believe this inverter would work with a source that was internally regulated (as some wind turbines are) as it expects the open-circuit voltage to be higher, like a solar panel.For those that are considering a hybrid system, I have the output of my panels connected to this inverter AND to a charge controller. While the batteries are charging the inverter gets virtually nothing, but then as the batteries charge the inverter begins producing and the charge controller takes maybe 0.1A to maintain the batteries. Tripp This baby charges up the 8 volt battery in my 1949 international tractorparked out in the orchard quite well. I even ran over it with an empty trailer, and left it out in the rain! Saved Us in the Forest By Joey Rush I often go Gold & Gemstone hunting and use quite a bit of 12volt equipment, including a forgotten 12v cooler plugged into the dash. Upon leaving the car for a day to prospect a small stream, the cooler drained our battery dead. We returned with only about 2 hours of daylight left, found the battery dead and I immediately removed the charger from my backpack and began charging the battery with direct sunlight. As the sun was setting we "tried it" and there was just enough charge to start us up and we drove the 12 miles out of the forest instead of having to walk it out for help.Not only does the product work, but it has changed the way I think about solar energy. Excellent By Thankful I bought one of these about three years ago. I put it on the dashboard of my pickup to keep the battery charged, as the truck did a lot of sitting in the driveway. It worked fine for at least a year. Actually I don't know how long it worked. One day, just on a lark, I put a multimeter on it to see if it was still working, and found that it wasn't putting out 12 volts. After almost two years since I bought it, I sent it back to Sunforce (in Canada) and they sent me a brand new one! I've since had the new one installed in the truck for over a year. Just checked it yesterday and it's still cranking out the volts. I have it wired directly to the battery, as my Toyota pickup cigar lighter outlet isn't active unless the ignition is on.I am buying another one for backpacking to run a AA battery charger and keep GPS battery charged. Because it's so lightweight, it should be very good for this purpose.Nice of them to send me another one after nearly two years!When I got the first one I checked to see if it would run a small AM/FM/SW radio without batteries. Included instructions don't provide enough information. Website is just as un-informative. Cheap connector wires (low current), and is not equipped with screw-on terminal junctions.Good: Product works as advertised. Amazinlgly "regulates" the voltage to the required amount so as not to overcharge the battery. Beware though, in order to test the actual output voltage, you must apply a load on the battery end of the controller BEFORE. Failing this, the output can register volts as high as 20 volts !!! Apparently applying an actual load causes the controller to output the correct voltage range - lucky me, cause I bought 4 units ! The LEDS alternately flickers (fast for good voltage input and slow for low to no voltage on solar panel). The manual did NOT state the order of LED flashes.(1) Fast LED flashes - good voltage/current(2) Slow LED flashes - low/no voltage/current(3) steady Green - fully charged(4) steady amber - possible no load OR really low voltage/currentI recommend you go out and buy 'em. The are a really good deal and does the job at the best price ! I use them in Jamaica, to provide my appliances with power during power outages (very frequent here). Used with solar panels and DC to AC inverter, of course. Considered using a generator, but too many accidents here with generators, too noisy, too bulky, and during hurricane aftermath, fuel is a problem. Charger By Stephen Moczary I have this unit connect to two automotive 12V batteries with three 15W panels connect to it. So far the charger works as advertised by preventing battery drain when the sun goes down and charging while the panels are producing at least 13 volts. It is pretty much an install and forget item. Additionally I have those same two batteries tied into one of my trucks 12V power points so that the batteries charge when the vehicle is running by way of the alternator. Even with this double charging set up, the charge controller appears unphased and shows a charge light in the daytime and has on two occasions indicated a fully charged green light. To JD -- yes, this is misleading By Patrick Delcastillo I'm an Electrical Engineer -- and I can't see for the life of me how a 2x100W panel system could be called an "1800 Watt Solar Package." That description is completely misleading.This is a 200 Watt solar system, as the maximum power delivered from the solar panels is 200 Watts. (And average power would be considerably less...)Just because the batteries and inverter can deliver 1800 Watts doesn't make this an 1800 Watt solar system.
