By Karl I bought this panel to charge my Nokia N810 on a week-long camping trip. I was able to charge my N810 (PDA,) my old HTC Wallaby smartphone, and my girlfriend's Sansa e260 music player with it. I never let any of them run down to 0% battery, however it took the HTC Wallaby only about 4 hours total to charge both the internal and external batteries from about 5% total battery power. The Sansa took two hours to charge to full from 25%, and the N810 charged from 50% to full in around 2 hours. The panel is listed as a max 410mA, and in full sun, properly angled, I was reading 400mA from the panel. The biggest point of note is that in order to get full power from any solar panel, it needs to face the sun directly. This means in order to get the most out of the panel you need to readjust the angle every hour or so. The way I judge the proper angle of the panel was to put a one inch bolt through the small grommet at the bottom of the panel. With the bolt firmly in place, I turn and tilt the panel until the bolt has no shadow - this then means that the bolt, and therefore the panel, is aimed directly at the sun. Charging in the car works, but with similar concerns. It's much more difficult to properly orient the panel, and driving around results in inconsistent light hitting the panel, resulting in longer charge times. The panel came with an assortment of charging plugs, however none fit the HTC Wallaby, so I needed to make my own. It did have the 2mm charger for most Nokia devices (my N810 included) and the power connector on the panel itself is a USB socket, allowing most USB charging cords to be used. The panel worked beautifully for me, and even with 3 different devices I was able to keep all three charged for the entire week I was camping. I was using the N810 for roughly 5 hours a day, the HTC Wallaby for about 3 hours at night watching movies, and the Sansa e260 was running 8+ hours a day. I highly recommend this solar panel if you have any mobile devices you might need to keep charged while camping or hiking. It's small, light and provides enough power to charge many handheld devices. Packs a good wallop By RickaTTic This is a very nice product and has a good output as advertised. I measured 5.10 volts open and 400ma short circuit with a VOM. Charging my LG900 phones takes about 4 hours from almost dead in good sunlight. I really like the fact of how the panel produces good output across 180 degrees of sun orientation. Moving the panel to track the sun is not really necessary so you can set it and forget it. I bought a USB charger cable which plugged right into the panel and phone for $3 from a 'dollar store'. The unit comes with an assortment of plugs for cellphones and the radio shack style adaptaplug connectors. I gutted one of the included cellphone plugs (A BIGFAT OLD STYLE)and soldered together a 2 pin female adaptaplug so I could have a neg 5 volt plug in center pin for my Kaito SW radio. It plays and charges that thing perfectly. Since an adaptaplug female cable is not included you will have to rig up a connector if you want to reverse polarities from the included set which gives +plus voltage to the center pins. My plan was to run and charge my Kaito KA1102 AM/FM/HF radio (-NEG 5 VOLT CENTER PIN)during power failures. Very similar to installing an antenna By Citizen John I got this tower kit when I invested in the Sunforce 44447 wind turbine. Installing the tower kit is where the time is compared to installing the actual turbine, but it is really very simple. It is a lot like putting up a field antenna, which I had plenty of practice doing in the Army many years ago. You don't need any special tools. The most specialized tool you need is a socket wrench. The manual is excellent. The following is my experience. First you secure the base to the ground - that's where the tower will stand. Then you measure where the 4 guideposts will go and drive their anchors into the ground at a 45 degree angle to the base to secure it. Take it easy the first time you drive the anchors into the ground because it's likely you'll have to move them later in the setup as I did. You lay out the pipe sections, slide the guide hangars onto the correct places (they connect to guideposts), run the transmission wire through the pipe, fasten the pipe and secure the pipe to the tower base. The part you don't want to skimp on is raising the tower to make sure the guide wires are ok or if they need to be adjusted. Unless you install wind turbines frequently, they probably need to be adjusted. So you make your adjustments and re-anchor the guideposts, this time driving the anchors all the way in except for the 5 inches that stay above ground. You do all this before attempting to install the turbine. Finally you make the electrical connection to the turbine and wrap with electrical tape as with every turbine. Then you slide the turbine onto the tower, tighten the bolts, install the blades and raise the tower. You can do all this with 2 people. It is satifying work because you know you're doing a good thing for your property, for your physical security in the event the power grid temporarily goes down, for the environment and possibly for economic gain if you are allowed to sell excess power back into the grid. The frame is light weight meant to be put up and down for camping/RV use! Kept two deep cycle batteries charged all day and into the night. Can't wait to get another set so I can boon dock! 2 of 3 people found the following review helpful. decent panels but iffy accessories By hammer i actually got this kit from Costco so i cant comment on delivery or price. well i opened the box and everything was packed well which is good because solar panels are notoriously brittle. After assembling the support stand i realized that it is very flimsy and would most likely fall apart when i am trying to mount it onto the roof and the screw holes were wider than the rafters on my roof. i also noticed the lower support wasnt high enough to properly support the panels. i wound up welding some extra bands of steel to remedy this as well as welding the lower support on in the proper location. well after installing the panels on the roof facing west it was already generating power even though the panels were facing away from the setting sun. now on to the charge controller and inverter. the charge controller is adequate but i wish it had a volt meter so i would know hen to turn off the system when the battery is running low. the battery connection on the charge controller is kind of small and the other accessories all connect to the battery so it would be best to build some sort of battery box with separate terminals for all the electrical connection. my opinion: the system is decent but i would suggest if you buy it that you should add to it See all 2 customer reviews...

By Vinney Larue I purchased the 1200 watt 5 blade wind turbine Windmax and it arrived today so I have not yet installed but will report on that when I do. The package did not come with a packing slip. The plastic envelope on the outside of the box where the slip is often located was empty and it was not inside the box. It was packed well, but the screws were out of the plastic package and were lose within a compartment. The equipment appeared to come from China because of the English and Chinese symbols on the turbine housing. Visually, the equipment looked good with a nice white painted finish. The wind tail rudder was larger than the picture showed and it appeared very effective. I noticed the unit was heavier than I expected, and it had a rugged quality about it. There were no installation instructions per say, but they did include a "Wind Turbine Guidebook," which covered five of the HYenerty models. Their Turbine Guidebook was photo copied or they ran it off on a printer that was losing ink because the last four pages were poor quality....some of the words were badly faded and it is difficult to read. What they didn't tell you in the online sales pitch was that they do not warranty the turbine if you install it yourself. In fact, they specify that you should not even purchase it unless you have someone professionally install it for you. And they must approve the installer, which is never stated in their on-line written sales pitch. They include a four page document with all the reasons why they won't give you a warranty, and all the hoops you have to jump through to have them consider replacing a defective unit. The vendor especially insists that you even have to find an installer who must first contact them for approval before purchase and installation. I read their Wind Turbine Guidebook, and the assembly/installation process is not difficult and its pretty straight forward. 11 of 11 people found the following review helpful. Great Little Turbine!!! By themza We got the turbine up and running in just a few hours! It fit easily onto a standard 2" steel pipe. It only weighed about 50 pounds so it wasn't too difficult to mount. It came with a charge controller included which was nice. The controller has it's own dump load and has 3 led lights indicating what it's doing. Later we will add solar panels to the unit. Once the wind picked up the turbine started spinning wonderfully. The output was better than expected and quickly charged 8 12-volt deep cycle batteries. We had the batteries running into an outback off-grid inverter which handled the output of the turbine quite easily.
