I have a small 2 bedroom house and after installing this product I have yet to get a bill from the electric company. As background, the panel is glued to a rubber membrane, and that in turn has a adhesive that is covered with waxed paper until you are ready to instll (glue it down) onto the roof of the RV. When I first rolled out the panel there were some obvious bubbles where the lamenent between the panel and the rubber membrane had separated during storage or shipping ( one panel was from September 2009, another from November 2010 both were the same. I rolled out and left flat for 4 hours in the hot sun and the bubbles id not go away. However, the sun softened the glue so I could insert an old dull dinner knofe (not sharp!) between the panel and the membrane to allow the trapped air to get out. I then used a linoleum roller (a bread rolling pin would work but there would be troubkle on the home front). The knife was a sticky mess, but once the ir was out panel and membrane layed flat. I don't know waht you would do in 50 degree weather - a heat gun and the same knife/and roller might work. I installed 4 panels so I used the provided 10 gauge wire on the roof to a single location where I upsized befor dropping through the roof and to the controller/batteries. I have isolated each panel - each outperforms the 68 watt 4-amp specs, and they do this in partial shade!! and late in the afternoon. Very pleased. When you put a load on the battery, like moving out the slide on and RV, they hang right in there on peak power. I was not impressed with putting 20 holes in the roof to mount each panel with the heavy rubber hardware provided. I see manufacturere now has replaced most of these screws with glue down rubber mounting hardware, but this is clearly older stock. I ended up using standard RV Endurabond roof tape, with RV caulk around its edge to keep its glue from being tacky. Way cleaner, lighter, in weight and color, and, in my opinion, all that is needed to hold a streamline waterproof attachment. ANd way better than rattling hardwar on the roof for a standard metal framed panel. Yes the metal panel is cheaper and more powerful, but too much hassle raising and lowering them every time you stop to get max amps. See all 1 customer reviews...

However, I ordered this item specifically as it was a brown one to coordinate with my roof. I received a nasty looking galvanised one! Amazon did refund the money but not the shipping costs so all in all dissapointed. OK, OK, I built my own stonehouse and put this monster stone chimney in it - after all bigger is better. BUT with my little 40,000 btu coal stove with a 6" stovepipe -- I just don't get the draft I need --- so hopefully this will help the draft on my chimney. Haven't got it installed yet -- but it whirls when I put it on my head and walked around my yard for a trial when I got it the other day. My dad drove in the driveway - and said "gee I got a 46 year old kid that wears an attic ventilator as a hat -- hey son can you go back inside the house before you embarass the family?" - true story, so I just had to tell it. The charge controller is adequate to the task but there's no display, other than "charging/charged" lights. If you want to know your amps or voltage, you're out of luck (without a separate ammeter). The power inverter is nice, though at 200W its overkill for a 55W (max) panel set. At noon in Seattle in early March I saw a peak of 40W in direct sun, so the rating seems realistic. In shade they produce (for me, anyway) about half an amp, which is around 7 watts. If you consider a Gator battery (small motorcycle-style gel battery) is 12Ah, that means it could charge one fully in about 5 hours of sun or 2 days of shade. 4 of 5 people found the following review helpful. It's great; I can get out one, two or three panels as I need charging; I even sometimes have one panel out while sailing, which is enough to run my autopilot. It's very good. The charge controller I got works well, too. HOWEVER, one of the panels I was sent arrived broken. It took me eight weeks of back and forth with ICP solar to get that one panel replaced. I had been used their product 5,000 watt and this 10,000 both are break down after warranty 12 months. The manufacturer will not take any support. However, after spending several months trying to repair my pricey and ever failing gas generator, I searched the internet for a better option. I came across this Wagan inverter and was weary about purchasing after reading one of the reviews. However, I decided to purchase it anyway. It arrived within just days and I was eager to try it out. I browsed through the manual but I still wanted more information. I called their Tech Support line and ACTUALLY REACHED A LIVE PERSON on the first call (Lets face it, that doesnt happen too often anymore!). She was able to tell me what cables were needed, what batteries she recommended and the head technician was even able to give me step by step installation instructions... All of this at NO COST (another rarity!). It was easy to install and I was up and going in no time. It feels great not having to worry about running out of gas (or that terrible gasoline smell) for a change! By woodygjw Ok, I give it 5 stars although out of four I bought, two would not charge properly, but at 3.99 it was worth the extra effort to get them going. Here is the problem with some of these, the batteries have been sitting a while, so after you charge it for a few minutes, some of these may show they are charged, even though they are not. The batteries need to be cycled in these and all of mine have come back to life. Here is what you can do to help bring them back... 1) Charge unit until LED goes green (with a battery that needs to be cycled, it may show its charged after a few minutes. With battery that is in good shape and being dead, it should take around 4 hours to charge) 2) Unplug charger and turn on unit. It may go dead after a few minutes, thats OK. After it shuts itself off, wait 10 minutes. Repeat the steps above and it should come back to life. The most I repeated the above steps were 4 times before it accepted a full charge, and all mine work now. I tried it for my Blackberry (I let it run down as low as it would go without it shutting off) and it charged my Blackberry enough for a whole day's use, and then some. A week went by without my charging up the B&D Pocket Power before I used it again, this time on my iPod. It was still able to charge my 80GB iPod. I use my iPod for music AND videos and, with the charge from Pocket Power, I even had enough battery power to watch my videos, which is energy-intensive. I have even tried charging my Canon EOS camera battery and it extended my use of the camera. I am buying another one for my trips to Europe -- not every hotel room there is equipped with as many outlets as we enjoy here and a travelling family can only stay up so long in the evenings vying for outlets to charge their electronics. It's not that heavy or bulky to take. Black and Decker Does Not Honor This Product Warranty By Tom Two weeks ago I purchased this Black and Decker product from my local CVS store in California. Brand-new, out of the package it wouldn't work. I felt reassured that at least it had a two year warranty, and was a "name brand" of Black and Decker. I was shocked when I phoned the Black and Decker service center in Texas, the 800-544-6986 that was included with the warranty info, ...and they told me that since the item had been manufactured three years earlier (there was a 2007 date-sticker on product), and since this product had been discontinued by Black and Decker, they could not honor the warranty for repair or replacement. I informed the Black and Decker service-center manager [Anita] that it was not legal for Black and Decker to claim "no responsibility" for their warranty, and they couldn't refuse to honor their warranty just because they discontinued the item, (particularly because I had just purchased it two weeks prior, & had my receipt). She then gave me a local Black and Decker service-center phone number in California, where the representative ("Dave") informed me that because the item was discontinued by Black and Decker, "I was out of luck", and there was nothing they could do. Great system By TVGuidry We bought the Go Power Weekender solar and inverter package, so we could keep the batteries charged on the RV, and also have the ability to run the TV at night as well as the microwave without running our generator. The kit came with everything we needed to install the solar panel and the 1500 watt inverter including a 30 amp transfer switch. This was actually a very nice addition because it makes it so when the inverter is on, all of the outlets in the RV still work just like when we are plugged in at an RV park. The solar has kept the 2 6 volt batteries that we have on the RV topped up even on fairly cloudy days. We may need to add another panel down the road for the trips over a week but for now we have found the system has been perfect. I would recommend this system for anyone that wants a complete plug and play solar and inverter system. Once it was installed we have not really had a need for the generator unless we are using the Air Conditioner a lot. The system has definitely been one of the best things we have bought for our RV. My wife and I will typically use the lights, the waterpump, the furnace when it is cold and the stereo. We have 2 batteries in our trailer and we found that we were running out of power after a couple of days of camping. We started looking at solar options and believe me there are a lot of solar options out there. We found that the Go Power line is recomended by many people in the RV market. We purchased the GPRV-125 and it came with everything that we needed to install the solar kit. It came with a solar 125 watt Carmanah solar panel that puts out 7 amps per hour in good sunlight, the mounting hardware to mount the solar panel on the roof as well as the wire and most importantly the 25 amp GP-PWM-25 digital solar charge controller. The only thing we needed that was not in the kit was the sealant for the solar panel mounting brackets. We have a rubber roof so we used Dycor sealant for the brackets. There is a good installation video of the GPRV-125 on You Tube that is done by Fraserway RV. Just look up Fraserway RV solar install and it should be the top video. Since we installed the solar kit we have imeadiately noticed that the batteries are lasting much longer then when we are out camping. We recently stayed out for 4 days without the batteries getting below 50%. We know this because the GP-PWM-25 solar controller has a battery percentage display on it. We were even running the furnace every night! One of the days it was raining and it still charged the batteries to 100% by the end of the day. We are more then pleased with the Go Power 125 watt solar kit and would recommend it to anyone that is fed up with their batteries running dead while they are camping. Another great feature is that the solar kit comes with a 25 year warranty which is much longer then the trailer will last. GP-RV-125 Solar Charging Kit By Peter Anderson I bought this kit and it came with absolutely everything I needed to install the solar system. It has the 125 watt Carmanah solar module, the 25 amp digital Go Power regulator and all the wire and mounting hardware that I needed to put it on my travel trailer. The instructions for the installation were very simple and this was an easy install, in my opinion. The solar panel has been on for a couple of weeks now and I have to say I wish I had bought one a long time ago. My batteries never seem to be low and I just got back from a 3 day camping trip. I highly recommend this solar kit for anyone who would like to no longer worry about dead batteries in their RV. There is a 25 year warranty on the panel as well. The charge controller which is called a GP-PWM-25 (in the video) can actually handle 3 of these 125 watt panels but I have not had a need to do so. Portable generators are fueled by gasoline and include 120-volt power outlets like the ones in the walls of your home. When the generator is running, you can plug appliances and tools directly into these outlets. Some generators also include 240-volt outlets (that is, the kind of outlet for an electric dryer or for other large appliances). Portable generators range in cost between a few hundred dollars to several thousand dollars depending on the capacity and features. Inverters: Inverters turn DC power into AC power, the type of current that powers everyday appliances. A common use of an inverter is to connect one into a car's cigarette lighter and then plug small home appliances into the inverter. Inverters have added features over the years, and today many inverters include emergency radios, lights, or their own internal battery to store power. When you purchase an inverter, you need one that can handle the wattage of the appliances you intend to connect to it. Some inverters are made specifically to power low-wattage appliances, like portable phones or digital music players. Others can handle heavy-duty power tools. However you use your generator, over time you'll have to change filters, oil, and spark plugs. Plus, you should not store raw gasoline in the generator when you're not using it. I live in an area (upstate NY) where we lose power frequently. The item arrived and was delivered to my back yard in perfect working order. We recently had a very bad ice storm in the Northeast and we lost power for 3 days. The generator worked perfectly running my sump pump, hot water heater (gas, direct vent), furnace, fridge (2) and several lights. I had to run power cords from outside rather than use the NEMA power cord to a manual transfer switch I had installed before the generator was delivered (more on that later). I ran the house for 10-12 hours on the 2 20lb propane tanks before I needed to change them out, which was to me, excellent. The generator is very quiet, we could barely hear it in the house. I have it installed behind my garage facing downwind of the house. Okay, the transfer switch issue. While the manual, Briggs & Stratton web site, Briggs & Stratton FAQ page does not specifically state this, you MUST purchase the B&S manual transfer switch PERIOD! The model number is Briggs & Stratton 71014 - PowerNow Generator Transfer Kit (10 Circuits). This is the only transfer switch that works with the GFCI breaker installed in the generator. I had 3 electricians (friends of mine) look at the gen-tran 30 amp transfer switch wiring that was installed in my house and it is NOT a switching neutral switch. Confused? I was too until I got on the phone with a very nice B&S technician who told me to only use their switch. I was dissapointed as I then needed to shell out another $400.00 but now it's working fine. I did let B&S know that they should be specific about the fact that only their switch is compatible with these types of generators. It is because of this fact that I only rated it 4 stars. Customer servcie at Briggs said they quit putting in batteries some time ago but did not change their adervertising! First time I used the machine the power went out I went out in the rain to start the machine. It started fine and ran for about 15 minutes then shut down and would not restart. I made the mistake of not latching the access door to the controls. Apparently moisture got in and shut the machine down. After I let the machine dry out for 24 hours it started and ran perfictly. Be sure to shut and latch the access door in wet weather. I wanted to run the machine on Natural Gas. It came with the proper jet to convert it. It said that I would need a special tool and gave the part number to change the jet. I ordered the part and paid $25. When it arrived it was a short handle screw driver. Works as advertised By weBBed I almost didn't buy this because of the 1-star reviews -- but then I noticed those reviewers were just ignorant. (Uninformed Amazon reviewers?!, gosh what a shock...). I used a fuse tap to install an always-on 12V cigarette lighter adapter in my SUV for this panel. The low voltage trickle is enough to keep my battery topped off indefinitely, even after 2 and 3 weeks of just sitting in the driveway (whereas my battery would sometimes be almost dead after sitting for a week). By Mario Aguilar Jr. First I bought a small inverted thinking it will be enough to power up a big air condition and it failed. Then, I bought this humongous powerful inverter and at first it also failed. Their customer service is GREAT explain the problem. I was connecting the inverter with gauge 4 cables and it was powering up most stuff, but when it came to the 10,000 BTU air condition it failed. Then, they told me to change does weak gauge 4 cables and get gauge 0. After, that it was a beauty. This is hooked up with 2 106AH marine battery for now which I am going to put 10 in total. They are being charge by solar panels for now I only have 360 watts with gauge 4 wires, later I will put for 1000 watts of solar panels. Quick update, the A/C actually sucks about 4,600 watts for a good 10 seconds before it drops down to regular watt at 890 watts. Sense this thing actually is 6,000 watts and 12,000 peak there is no problem. Powerful Product For The Price By Uranus Speaks From Lowe's (same author) This inverter has so far (about three weeks of use) proven reliable and easy to use. The question is does the average person need a "6000" watt inverter. From what I've learned, it depends mainly on what your appliance starting loads require, not the operating load. If you're going to run a modern refrigerator or microwave oven I've found the 3000 watt starts and runs ok. But I wouldn't recommend it for the big microwave ovens--the 3000 watt unit just can't keep up with the demand. A small airconditioner that has a 1000 watt operating consumption may well require 4000-5000 watts over 5-10 seconds to start its compressor. The 3000 watt inverter has been known to kick off line after only a couple of seconds at 4500 watts and therefore won't start the airconditioner. This 6000 watt inverter does well here with plenty of operating juice to keep stuff running, but puts a real drain on the batteries. Also worth noting is this 6000 watt inverter seems to maintain more voltage stability--I've run it at around 3000 watts and the its output voltage never dropped below 118 VAC and its frequency remained steady at 59-60 cycles per second. This panel has grommets along the edges for easy mounting, I used rubber tarp straps to mount this to a 100 gallon cylindrical fuel tank. It charges the deep cycle battery that runs the pump that was already in place. I used to put the battery on a charger every night the pump was used, with the solar charge is not necessary, is virtually maintenance free now. I bought a square framed panel first, did not take long to figure out this was going to be a nightmare getting a square panel mounted to a round tank. With this flex style do not have to worry about rocks and gravel kicking up on the panel either. The HQRP 30 Watt panel is roughly 16 X 34 inches. The old 11 watt panel was 30 inches by 16 inches. 19 more watts, in 4 inches more length, shows a LOT more watt density than in Ye Olden Dayes! It sits on a Bimini Top on my sailboat, so I had to round off the sharp corners on the aluminum sheet substrate with some tin-snips. It's been installed for three weeks now and even with all the rain plaguing the Southeastern U.S. lately, STILL keeps my Group 29 battery fully float-charged into a solar array charger. Mayberry I purchased one of these about 8 months ago, along with the Sunforce digital 30-A controller and Duracell 800-w inverter to use on our motorhome when in campgrounds with no hookups or when boondocking. Normally they are both charging two marine deep-cycle batteries hooked in parallel to a 2KW (square wave) inverter which stays on all the time. Since the inverter draws so little power when not being used, I see no reason to turn it off and on all the time. I use it to power mostly lights at night in my bedroom, but occasionally my vacuum, laptop, and such. I also power several items directly from the batteries 12 Volt taps, including cell phone chargers and the like designed to run on 12 volts. Works great. When the marine cells are fully charged, I also switch one controller to GEL CELL and charge some gel cells I use to pump shower water onto my lawn. We have water restrictions here in Los Angeles, and I see no sense it just letting mine go down the drain. I use less than 25% of my water quota every month, and as a result, don't pay higher rates for the water I do use. Since these solar panels can put out nearly 10 amps each, they make quick work of charging two marine batteries. I wouldn't count on powering your house directly from just two panels unless you have a way to store the power like batteries. A watt is a watt so you can add up the wattage that you use in your home and double it (safety margin and you can't expect your panels to pump out 100% power all the time.) The formulas, if you care, are: P=I x E where P is the power in watts, I is the current in amps, and E is the electrical voltage soooooo... 123 watts = 10(ish) amps x 12 volts So you can get up to 10 amps at approximately 12 volts. That translates to 1 amp (assuming 100% efficiency) at 120 volts. 123 watts =1 amp x 120 volts. (I am fudging the math ever so slightly because, obviously 123 does not equal 120) So if your house pulls 50 amps of power all the time (yeah right - only if you are running air conditioning all the time with 4 TVs on and your freezer with the door open) you would need 50 panels (working at 100% rating ha ha ha) to power your house during the day. Now account for the fact that you will probably not get 100% out of your panels for numerous reasons, account for the transmission loss, general inefficiencies in conversion to AC, and general, 50% engineer's markup insurance, you would probably want between 75 and 100 panels to meet your electrical needs. When it gets to that kind of cost, you are better off buying wholesale, and taking the deductions and cash from your electric company. Just remember that your house would probably only pull more than 50 amps at peak times and if you also use battery backup for storage, not only will you also have power at night, but the juice from the batteries will help buffer any surges from starting up your A/C, hot tub, washing machine, table saw, or other unreasonable industrial machinery you might be playing with in your garage. 29 of 30 people found the following review helpful.
